What's Going On?

July 25-August 1, 2010

Church Office Summer Hours

The church office closes at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays through September 3rd. Monday - Thursday we’re open from 8:30-4:30.

Coming Up This Sunday, August 1, 2010

Sunday Morning - 8:00, 9:15 & 10:45 a.m. - We’re celebrating Communion together and beginning a new 4-week series in the book of Esther. We’re calling this study, “Favor”—not only because it’s a key word, but because in the book of Esther, we learn the best ways to handle any favor that comes our way. Pastor Jeff’s message is Favor: Handle It Responsibly (Esther 1-2). Just as we experienced with the book of Ruth, God’s message in Esther has powerful & practical implications for us today. Hope to see you.

Songs You've Heard on Sunday Mornings

Throughout this series on Ruth, we have been able to use songs written by Mandi Mapes from The Church At Brookhills in Birmingham, Alabama. If you would like to download these songs, you can do so on iTunes. The names of the four songs are: "So Long, Familiar," "Under The Wings Of God," "I Already Know" and "Story Of Love."

Summer Breeze Choir

Are you interesting in joining the Worship Choir, but not quite sure it's for you? Love to sing but can't commit to an entire season? Summer Breeze is ready for you! This "low-impact" summer choir will perform one song on Sunday morning, August 15th, with only two Wednesday night rehearsals at 6:30 pm. (August 4th and 11th.) If you are interested in serving the Lord through this fun and easy summer choir, please contact Keith Wilson (652-8243) or Laura Heckel (529-3288).

Café On The Rock

The entire church family (& friends) are invited to Café on the Rock on next Thursday, July 29th, for an evening filled with good food and even better fellowship. In celebration of summer, we are having a “Stay and Play” again this month. The kitchen will be serving food from 6:00-7:00 p.m., and the café will be open until 7:30 p.m., but the game room will be open until 8:30 p.m.! Plenty of time for a Ping Pong tournament if someone would like to take the lead. As always, anyone is welcome at anytime. We are serving Pepperoni Pizza with four drinks for $5. Please join us! Interested in volunteering? Call Rebecca at 691-7772.

Orphan Awareness Night

On July 30th, at Cherry Hills, there will be a benefit dinner and concert of classical musical. All proceeds go to the Yanji Orphanage in a remote area in Northeast China and will help purchase coal for winter heat, daily operational and educational expenses and establish funding to support an ongoing summer internship for teaching English. Dinner is at 5:15 p.m. and a concert with cello, viola, violin and piano from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Single Moms Back-to-School Event

The Cherry Hills Single Moms ministry has scheduled a special back-to-school luncheon for the single moms and their children. The event is at Cherry Hills following the third service on Sunday, August 1. A guest speaker will bring encouragement to the children and youth as they return for another school year. Please let us know if you plan to attend by signing up by July 28th. This event is completely free to the single moms and their children. Team members:

Landscape Help

Our church has been blessed with a beautiful property. Your help is needed to keep the landscape beautiful. Thanks to the many volunteers who have helped in the past. Can you spare a couple of hours a month to weed, trim, fertilize, or otherwise keep our property in a park-like setting? If you would like to help or find out more information, contact Berta Kay (529-1263 or bkayx2@yahoo.com). The plan is to work on Thursday and Friday mornings over the summer. Kids are welcome to make it a family project as well!

Traffic Alert

Now that we have a new Chatham Road entrance, the county has removed the barricade at our Woodside Road entrance. Please use extra caution when pulling out onto Woodside Road. Oncoming traffic will be traveling at up to 55 MPH in all directions. We can no longer assume a west-bound car in the right lane is turning into the church.

Do not pull into a lane of traffic unless you have plenty of clearance and room to increase your speed.

Men's Open Gym Basketball

Men (college age and up), if you like exercise and play basketball, please join us on Sunday afternoons at the Rock (2:30-4:00 p.m.) for pick-up basketball in the multi-purpose room at The Rock. Non-competetive, we're just there to fellowship, exercise and have fun. Every Sunday unless otherwise announced. Questions? Please call Pastor Steve.
