The story of Daniel in the lion’s den has always been one of my favorites. How many times throughout our lives have we come face to face with a lion (a situation with our health, a relationship or money) that could’ve utterly devoured us? But we emerged from the pit alive and well. How often do we face people, circumstances, or the result of our own choices, and the enemy tries to use those things to ruin our lives?

How many times have we felt hopeless, like our fate was sealed but God saw our faith and proved that He had control of the outcome. Bad things happen but God can use them for good. We are challenged and sometimes stretched to our limits, but not destroyed. God in his divine love and great grace delivered us from the very jaws of hell and continually snatches us up and right out of the deep, dark dens in life unharmed!

s - daniel chapter 6

17 - “A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed.”

23 - “The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”

27 - “He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions!”

o - Things change throughout the ages and yet in so many ways remain the same. Just like so many people throughout the Bible and believers in our world today, Daniel was persecuted but he trusted God completely and had faith that God was fully in control. Daniel did not try to manipulate the circumstances even though he was faced with injustice and a grizzly death. He was brave in his decision to be different and do what he thought was right.

a - Ungodliness was as rampant then as it is now. Daniel tried to live a life that was holy and would glorify God. This pleased God. Though we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, we should try to remain faithful to what is Christian and Holy. By God’s grace and power of the Holy Spirit in us, we should strive to make choices, like Daniel, that will testify to God’s power in us. We need to remember to repent when necessary and place our hearts continually before the throne for God’s light to shine upon. Always aiming to have the character of Christ that can help lead others to salvation. And, never giving the enemy any truth to work with only lies.

p - Thank you God for continually rescuing us! Thank you for being a protective Father and our deliverer! Thank you for keeping the enemy and life’s darkness for devouring us! Thank you for using the trials and struggles for the purpose of pointing others to Jesus.  Teach us to pray, to trust and praise you even when we do not understand. Increase our faith! Help us please to be brave and choose a godly life not seeking revenge but letting you be God. Help us to be hungry and have hearts that are thirsty for you. May we be a people that glorify you especially in times of trouble so that others may be saved.
