psalms 17-30

07/08/2019    |   David Gorrell

This week we are continuing our way through Psalms. For me, the book of Psalms is a daunting book to start, but I always enjoy going through it. It is always a source of encouragement and relief, whether it be joining David in song and worship, or knowing that God is there for me even when it doesn’t feel like it.

s - scripture: psalm 19:1-4 (NLT)

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.[a]
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world.

o - observation

When God created the world, He created it so that everyone and everything would give Him the glory. The sun, the moon, and the stars were all beautifully and perfectly placed in the sky to both give the earth life, but also to show His power. The thousands of stars in the sky, the billions of galaxies, they’re all made to give glory to God and God alone. The all speak to His incredible power. Despite how insignificant we may seem in the midst of all this, God still loves each and every one of us. He cares for us and even knows every detail about our lives. Luke 12:7 says that even the “hairs on your head are all numbered”. If God can create all of this beauty and still considers people to be His best creation, it shows an incredible, unconditional love.

a - application

God created us to give glory to Him. Yet, in this fallen world, it is easy to forget who created us and who loves us the most. All of creation shows the glory of God and gives worship to Him, even the rocks (Luke 19:40)! God is deserving of more than the “good enough” that I try to give. It’s easy for me to fall into an apathetic lifestyle, saying that I’m a Christian and yet not living it out and to lose that fire and passion for Him. Even when I fail to worship Him, the stars continue to, night after night. For me, looking into the night sky is a reminder of how great He is and how He deserves to be worshipped, at all times. The next time you look at the stars in the sky, just remember how they call out to Him and share the glory of His name. As Christians, we should do the same!

p - prayer

Lord, thank you for being the loving and caring God that you are. It can be easy to lose sight of you in the midst of our busy lives, but you deserve praise always. Help us to be reminded to always give you glory. Help us to be a people who always praise you and shine your light on the world, through both our words and our actions. Let us always shine your light and be ambassadors of your name, just like the heavens. Amen.
